and maybe that saving comes in small increments, small moments.
you chose to get out of bed. you walked outside and took in the fresh air in big gulps. you told your mother you were sad. she kissed your head and told you that it was okay to be sad so long as you remembered to keep your head above the water-- and if you need help, don't be afraid to ask for it. you kept breathing. inhale. exhale. and again, and again, and again. you read a book. you did everything to keep your heart from breaking, at least for today. you caught yourself smiling at the trees swaying in rhythm with the breeze. you drank an entire pot of coffee. for every cup-- two creams, four sugars. you ate a slice of leftover birthday cake. you hummed along to your favorite song. you thanked god for today and asked him for the strength to make it through tomorrow. and maybe the day after that, you won't have to try as hard. just going through the motions will feel a bit more like living and a little less like just getting by.
you can save yourself a bit more every day, just by choosing to wake up, to be here, to be alive.
that's something worth fighting for and you are someone worth saving.
