oh, christmas tree how i love thee

Wednesday, January 1, 2014

a couple weekends ago we got all bundled up in our warmest clothes and made our merry little way to the christmas tree farm near where my grandpa had grown up. when we arrived, my grandma grabbed the sled, my grandpa- the chainsaw, and myself- my camera, of course. i’m beginning to think it has started growing on me like an extra limb, but i can’t say that i really mind too much. per usual, we decided to split up to look for our soon-to-be christmas tree. my gramma and i went one way, my grandpa the other. we're very keen on the whole team work thing. stepping over fresh stumps where other trees stood and admiring the limbs of the newly grown, we finally spotted our tree. she was tall, and soft- vibrant against the morning’s gray sky. grandpa cut her down and wrapped her up. she was ours and she was so lovely. while grandpa was working, gramma looked at him with warmth and then looked over at me and said, “now that’s a man- this is the kind of man you should wait for.” and it’s those moments that i wish i could capture and hold onto forever. moments of pure love. raw, and simple- the kind that strikes you right in the center of your heart.

we also wandered into the cozy little shop they had inside of their barn when we had our tree all packed up and ready to go. we admired the vintage costume jewelry and sipped on some very tasty hot apple cider. it warmed our bellies and our hands, and we were so very happy. i found a wonderful pendant that i just fell in love with, so she came home with us too. over all, we had such an amazing day and i couldn't ask for anything more than these moments i share with the ones that i love. if they were tangible, i'd keep them in my pocket and carry them around with me always so i'd never forget.

hi, hello. welcome.

i'm kd. always, endlessly somewhere between here and there. becoming, becoming, becoming.
