i've gotten really good at this whole thrifting thing. like...really good.

a couple days ago, my grandma and great aunt invited me to go to a garage sale with them. now, to some people that may be a pretty simple gesture, but not to these women. no. these women are thrifting queens. they wear crowns of gold, carrying around hidden secrets of the trade. i was clueless until now.

i have been invited to be a queen and it is glorious.

my great aunt, donna, found a garage sale in the newspaper, cut it out and called us ladies. we met up at her house and all rode together. when we got there, we parked at the end of the drive. donna says the closer you get to the sale the better, but you don't want to park too far in because if someone parks behind you, you'll be blocked in. who thinks of these things? queens. that's who. see what i mean? genius. the garage sale turned out to be an estate sale actually. the smell inside of the house was potent. i had to hold my sleeve up to my face in order to breathe a few times, but it was entirely worth it. as you can see.

i found three pairs of true vintage earrings. each pair for a quarter. yeah, that's right. a quarter. also in my loot was an elegant wicker basket, sterling silver platter engraved with a beautiful floral print, and pressed flowers in a golden frame. needless to say, i am completely and utterly smitten with my finds. ahhh.

donna and my grandmother say there is still so much to learn and believe me, i am more than ready. maybe i should make myself a glittery golden crown to wear every time i go thrifting. too much? yeah... i thought so too. darn.

oh, you're the prettiest of them all

ingredients:

1 box large rotini pasta
1 package imitation crab
bacon (however much you want! it's bacon!)
1 block of cream cheese
3/4c. milk
1/4c. minced garlic
1/4c. minced red onion (optional)
2tbs. parmesan cheese
salt (to taste)
pepper (to taste)

here's how i did it:

in a large pot bring water to a boil and then add 1 box of large rotini pasta. while pasta is cooking, make your bacon. at our house, we use our handy dandy mak'n bacon microwave cooker. after bacon is cooked, chop bacon and crab into medium sized pieces and put into a bowl in the refrigerator until you're ready to use. drain pasta. warm milk in a medium sized pot on low heat. add block of cream cheese, minced garlic, red onion, and parmesan cheese to pot and stir until cream cheese is melted. if mixture is too thick, you may add more milk until you have the correct consistency. add meat and pasta. stir. cover pot for 5-10 minutes until hot. stir occasionally so the pasta doesn't stick to the bottom. add salt and pepper to taste. i like a little more zip to my pastas, so i put a little more salt and pepper than some people may like. you can also opt to use some veggies in your pasta as well. cook's choice, of course.

so there you have it! now, go and make yourself (and i suppose you should share some with your family, too) some delicious bacon seafood alfredo!

enjoy!
from our home to yours.

my absolute favorite coffee mug because 1. it's floral. c'mon. 2. my sweet mama gave it to me.

and again because i love it, so.

the face i always get when she catches me sneaking a photo of her.

catching up on coupon and recent events. anyone need some coupons? i have a million.

in the midst of the calm.

i have a thing for ceiling fans.

like i said.

welcome to the office.

words for the soul.

my grandma received this chair from my dad's father back in the seventies.

cutie pies... or bears.

that morning light though.

and again.

puzzles upon puzzles upon puzzles.

the more the merrier.

i have this new found love for old, rough around the edges wood pieces.

well, because it's kinda dreamy.

we have plants just about everywhere. it's safe to say we're good on oxygen.

more coupons.

there's at least a dozen pairs of glasses laying around the house and also, my dad gave my gramma this mug.

because.

she may be the dishes queen. but around here, we're a team.

crisp winter sky.

settled snow is peaceful.

i feel so small and that's okay. i wish them safe travels and a nice welcome home.

i really cannot get over this photo. i think i stared at it for five minutes straight earlier.

blowing in the breeze.

i'm madly, madly in love with my new thrifted tribal-print sweater find. really.

gramma eating out of her beloved cup. she uses them for everything.

fresh raspberry shake. yummmm.

my grandpa said that he used to make them for his mama and that makes my heart happy.

natural light is the best light.

she watches over gramma and grandpa while they dream.

bed-side rosary. my great grandparents said that a couple who prays together, stays together.

afghan.

gentle, hard working hands.

i really soaked it all up today, let me tell ya. admittedly, i didn't get out of bed until well after eleven, but it was nice. really nice. my days are so filled with love lately, i may explode and i'm not sure i'd even mind. we lounged around sporting our best bed heads, full tummies and hearts and it was so good. plus, i make some of the best coffee around and gramma and i drank it right up while we watched a couple of eighties movies and laughed until it hurt. for lunch, there was steak, salad, and fried potatoes and we near licked our plates. (i'm exaggerating... kind of.) but really, they are fantastic cooks and i am so very spoiled. with bellies resting, we talked about the good stuff and i warmed my toes underneath my grandma as she was busy working on her afghan for my great aunt, sue. grandpa is kind of a sucker for ice cream and as soon as lunch was gone, he was already ready for dessert, but we waited until our food had settled a bit. then, he made some delicious raspberry shakes. the raspberries were frozen and had come from our garden earlier this summer. (we have quite the pair with green thumbs up in this joint) let me say, it more than hit the spot. i took a little walk outside by myself and breathed in the fresh winter air and i honestly can't remember the last time i had really paid attention to how wonderful the crisp air smells. anyway, i apologize for all of the rambling. i just truly hope all of your days were just as swell as ours was and that your hearts were left filled to the brim and spilling over. life is good. i can't seem to wipe the smile from my face and for that, i am beyond grateful.

hey sunday, i kinda love you on days like today
